Pumpkin Volcano

If you are looking for the perfect Halloween STEAM activity, check out our jack-o-lantern volcano experiment!

We bought our pumpkins at the supermarket and then carved them at home. One was in the shape of a jack-o-lantern and the other was more simple. We then added baking soda, a few drops of dish soap (which helps with the bubbles), some food coloring (optional but so much fun) and then… the kids added vinegar! Before they started pouring, we discussed what we thought would happen and why. They had a pretty good idea since we are big fans of baking soda and vinegar activities around here.

We did this experiment over and over again. The kids kept adding more baking soda and vinegar to watch the pumpkin fill with fizz! This is an ideal hands-on activity for little ones!
