A is for Asphalt and C is for Crane in the construction themed alphabet book, B is for Bulldozer written by June Sobel and illustrated by Melissa Iwai.
Like many of his friends, Little M is fascinated with all things related to construction: cranes, dump trucks, forklifts and, of course, bulldozers. Which probably explains why we have been reading B is for Bulldozer almost non-stop since we picked it up last week.
The story begins with two young children standing outside a fence and watching as construction workers go about their day, operating cranes, diggers, excavators and more, in order to build an amusement park.
We love reading about the machinery and following the story as the seasons change, neighbors come to check on the progress, scaffolding comes down and visitors finally enter the park to enjoy the rides. We end the book with the Zoom of the roller coaster – and with Little M inevitably asking to read it again!
Have a construction loving kid at home? Here is another one of our favorite construction books and our favorite dump truck. And our review of another one of Melissa Iwai’s books, Hush, Little Monster (perfect for Halloween)!
Speaking of construction trucks – and while we are on the subject, cars, fire engines and anything with wheels, really. We get a lot of questions about safe, sustainably made, eco-friendly toys for kids. Green Toys is one of our favorite brands. We have their Flat Bed Truck with Race Car and Little M “drives” it around the house almost every day.
And as I mentioned above, we love their Dump Truck, it’s perfect for the beach, park or sandbox!

Hey thanks for that nice review! I’m glad your little guy likes it. 🙂
We really love it, excited to see it in the board book version now!
