Mother’s Day Vase of Flowers

May 8, 2015 by crayonsandcroissants

Surprise mom on Mother’s Day with this DIY vase craft. This is the perfect project for little ones who want to make something special and it’s so easy (I promise)! We started with these simple glass bottles (actually glass milk bottles that we bought at Michaels) but you can also use any glass (or plastic) bottles that you have at home. Gather your supplies – we found these adorable bee and ladybug wooden stickers but you can use anything you have at home such […]

French Cooking for Kids with Claudine Pépin

April 14, 2015 by crayonsandcroissants

Kids Cook French is a beautiful cookbook written by Claudine Pépin and illustrated by Jacques Pépin. We love this new book! Little M and I have spent a lot of time looking through the pages and marking the recipes we want to make. I can’t wait to try the Ratatouille and the Apple Tarts with Almond Frangipani and Little M has his eye on the Cheese Fondue. The classic French recipes are written in English and French. It has been fun to […]

Cocoa and Turmeric Salt Dough Shapes

April 10, 2015 by crayonsandcroissants

We spent an afternoon recently making salt dough shapes. For those of you who haven’t tried making salt dough yet, this is a great project to do with children. They can help with measuring, stirring, kneading, rolling, cutting out shapes, stamping and painting! Here is our recipe for Salt Dough and some step by step instructions. We used natural ingredients to color our dough: cocoa powder for brown and turmeric for yellow. 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup fine salt ½ to ¾ cup water […]

So it’s no wonder that these picture books about the zoo are favorites in our house! In Xander’s Panda Party, written by Newbery Medalist Linda Sue Park and illustrated by Matt Phelan, Xander the Panda takes great pains to plan the perfect birthday party – but he has a little […]

Ella’s Kitchen: The Big Baking Book

March 20, 2015 by crayonsandcroissants

We are on spring break this week and I can’t think of a better time to try out our newest cookbook – Ella’s Kitchen: The Big Baking Book. Little M and I have enjoyed Ella’s Kitchen recipes before. In fact, the first Ella’s Kitchen cookbook is always one of the first books we turn to when searching for recipe inspiration. This newest book is as appealing as the first. The illustrations are colorful and cute and the pictures of kids cooking, […]

How to Make Your Own Crayon Shapes

March 18, 2015 by crayonsandcroissants

We were cleaning out Little M’s art supplies the other day and we realized how many old crayons we seem to have collected. Little M and I discussed what to do with them and decided they would be perfect for a melted crayon craft. We have been wanting to make crayon shapes in the oven and these crayons were just right for our project. First I preheated the oven to 250 degrees F. Then Little M removed the paper from the crayons and […]

Update your home library with these new books – they have quickly become favorites in our house. In Lovey Bunny by Kristine A. Lombardi, we follow a cute little bunny as she goes happily about her day. She loves everything and everyone, but her curiosity gets the best of her when she ruins her mama rabbit’s new dress.
