We are in the middle of summer vacation and there is nothing we love more than lazy mornings, spending time outdoors, running through sprinklers and visiting our local farmers markets. We love stopping by our favorite stalls and stocking up on fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies. I am always looking for new recipes and any kid-friendly dishes are a bonus! Little M loves to be involved in the kitchen and he’s a wonderful helper. We adore the cookbook, The Sprouted Kitchen: Bowl + Spoon, from Hugh and Sara Forte at the Sprouted Kitchen. I have long been a fan of their beautiful blog and I wrote about their first cookbook here.
I love the recipes in this book because they are all so hearty, healthy and, like the book and blog, are filled with love and warmth. Bowl meals are wonderful because they consist of whole grains, proteins, veggies and greens – all mixed together in generous portions. The recipes are easy to follow and quick to assemble. Some of our favorite recipes are the Lentil and Rice Bowl with Summer Vegetables; Spring Noodles with Artichokes, Pecorino and Charred Lemons and the Golden Quinoa and Butternut Breakfast Bowl.
These are good, simple, delicious family meals. Little M loves the idea of a cookbook filled with “bowl” recipes and is always delighted when he gets his own bowl and spoon just like in the book! My favorite part is making the meals together and knowing that my kiddos are enjoying healthy food that was a breeze to whip up! If you can’t wait to make your own Sprouted Kitchen bowl + spoon meal, check out their recipe for Marrakesh Carrot Salad.
