Paint the town

As I have mentioned before, I am very into art projects and love the idea of getting Little M involved in working with paint. But a quick look at the ingredients of most kids paint products gives me the heebie-jeebies. Toxins such as formaldehyde, ammonia and lead are just some of the items in many kids paints. Luckily for us, there are numerous options for parents looking for natural art supplies for their little ones. Little M and I recently had the opportunity to try out Earth Paints, which is an incredible non-toxic paint made using pure earth pigments.

The company’s founder, Leah Fanning Mebane, is a professional oil painter who began looking for a safer alternative to toxic paints when she was pregnant with her first child. She experimented with making her own paints from natural clay pigments and the result was such a success that it inspired her to create a line of eco-friendly, earth based paints.

What I love most about this paint, besides the fact that it is such a wonderful natural product, is that the paint colors are truly vibrant and rich. The consistency is creamy and was very easy for Little M to use, as you can see in the photo below. The colors are so bright that they seemed to jump right off the paper! In fact, they sort of did and ended up in Little M’s hair, on his face, and all over his arms and legs!

Earth Paints are available in children’s kits and also in a professional quality oil paint version, you can find them all here.
