City Style

September 22, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

Show your city pride with these adorable baby bodysuits and kids t-shirts from Maptote. The company started off with simple cotton tote bags and now offers products ranging from wine totes (love these, what a great gift idea!) to bandanas to zipped pouches. Made of super soft cotton, the bodysuits and t-shirts are just the thing for your jet set kiddos to make a statement about their favorite cities. Paris, Miami, Los Angeles and Brooklyn are just some of the places […]

Mealtime. Beep beep.

September 21, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

Mealtime is usually a busy time in our household. I get Little M settled in his high chair and he watches while I get his food ready. He is learning to feed himself using his own spoon and fork, which makes for a fun, and messy, experience. We try to avoid plastic as much as we can and I am constantly searching for safer alternatives, especially when it comes to dinnerware. I found this wonderful plate from Innobaby that seems […]

Storage with a twist

September 20, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

I recently came across this lovely furniture collection from Dutch company Kast Van Een Huis. The unusual house-shaped furniture and storage lockers are inspired by the architecture of the Amsterdam canal houses. Perhaps best of all, they are eco-friendly and non-toxic. This stylish storage solution would be an adorable addition to any child’s room.

Bedtime Reading

September 20, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

You can probably already tell how important books are in our household. We are really trying to impart a love of reading to Little M. Story time before bed is an important ritual. We let Little M pick out the book he wants to read and sit down to enjoy it together. Here are a few favorites in no specific order: The Going-To-Bed Book by Sandra Boynton; this short and simple story is a quick and amusing read. Little M […]

Travel with a toddler

September 19, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

People often ask me if I travel much anymore. Sadly, I take far fewer trips these days than I used to. But we do still travel quite a bit with Little M. Yes, it is possible to have an enjoyable vacation when traveling with a little one. It just requires a lot of planning – and so much stuff! I was once a very streamlined traveler; tiny carry-on with laptop? Check. Shawl in case it gets cold? Check. Important documents […]

Books, books and more books

September 17, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

Little M and I love to read. I sometimes think I get more excited about his books than he does, but then he proves me wrong by bringing book after book over to me to read to him. We do have a few favorites, but tend to read quite a variety of books. One of our newest faves is Listen, Listen by Phillis Gershator and Allison Jay. It’s lovely because it walks us through all the seasons, with wonderful rhyming prose […]

Dining Out

September 17, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

Finding the perfect restaurant for dining out with a toddler can be a challenge. Little M and I enjoy eating out. We love perusing the menus, making our selections and people-watching. Little M sometimes gets impatient waiting for his food, as is the case with many toddlers (and some adults)! Any resto that serves us our food quickly, with a smile and with crayons is a winner in my book! I’ll be writing up our fave finds, with photos of […]

Play Dough

September 16, 2012 by crayonsandcroissants

In our quest to use the most non-toxic and eco-conscious products out there, I have decided to make play dough for Little M! I think this falls under the category of things I am more excited about than he is, but I just love art projects. I found a wonderful resource for home-made play dough here, including using natural sources for coloring the dough. So far, we have only made yellow (with turmeric) and red (with beets). Little M tends […]
