Jessica Alba’s new book, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You, is a great read for anyone who is looking to learn more about living a healthy, green life.
Alba has emerged as a force in the environmental health movement. She has won awards, including the Champion for Children Award, The Green Parent Award and is the founder of The Honest Company. Although her book is family-focused, Alba makes sure to cover many topics including home decorating, beauty and fashion, safe cleaning products and healthy recipes. I love that she shares honest (and dishonest) ingredients, tips and strategies that have worked for her family and friends and confessions and compromises that she makes. Want to know more? Alba is not vegan, didn’t cloth diaper and doesn’t have a green thumb – in other words, nobody’s perfect!
The Honest Life is an easy read. You can flip to the sections that interest you or take the time to read it cover to cover. I enjoyed reading Alba’s style guide, favorite eco-friendly cosmetic brands and tips for entertaining. She also shares DIY ideas for beauty solutions (add tea tree oil to your shampoo) and even household cleaning supplies (clean bath toys regularly in a solution of vinegar and water).
Little M and I will definitely be making some of Alba’s recipes and following her tips for traveling with kids. My favorite part about this book is that Alba’s suggestions are easy, affordable, down-to-earth and, quite simply, honest.
